The Spring Meeting of the Southeast Arkansas Choral Directors Association was held in the home of Susan Buckner, Pine Bluff, on April 25, 2006, at 6:15 PM.  The meeting was called to order by Region Chair Rodney Ford.  The minutes were read by secretary Susan Buckner, and a financial report was supplied by treasurer Denise Gray.  Additional members present were:  Marty Sewald, Laura Ferguson, Charlotte Wilson, Cassandra Smith, Lucille Smith, Annette Rushing, Angel Owen, LorNelle Humphrey, and Cara Akin.

The first order of business was to set the dates for region events for 2006-2007.  The dates are as follows:

     April 13-14---State CPA

April 23---Jr./Sr. Solo and Ensemble Festival, Warren, Chair:  Laura Ferguson

April 24---Spring Meeting, Pine Bluff,  Chair:  Rodney Ford

New business:  1)  Laura Ferguson resigned as Jr. All-Region Chair after 11 years.  Cara Akin agreed to take her place as chair.

     2)  Judy Warner resigned as Honors Festival Chair and suggested that we ask the SW Region if they would like to host this event.  Rodney agreed to contact the SW Region Chair, Mark Langley and see if they wanted to host and chair the event.

     3)  Annette Rushing remarked that everyone must get access to a computer and register for every event online.  Rodney said that with the new website and a new process for registration, everyone’s computer should work with the system.

     4)  Rodney read a message from Tom Street, the highlights of which are:  There will be real pianos on every stage at State CPA next year; only one judging area, therefore a total of only three judges but also the possibility of this becoming a three-day event; and an inquiry of maybe adding trophies for “Best of Class” designations.

Old business:   1)  Laura reported that she has contacted 10 people and still has no one to direct the Jr. All-Region mixed chorus.  The music selections were due in March.  Rodney Ford agreed to direct the clinic and concert.  Suggestions for the music selections were discussed, as were possible accompanists.

2)  Charlotte reported that Dale Miller, Choir Director at ASU, will be the Sr. High Clinician.

3)  Annette’s choices for the Jr. High SSA pieces were approved by the group.

4)  Currently the SEArkCDA has a balance of $10,873.68 as reported by Treasurer Denise Gray.

The following fees were set by a motion made by Susan and seconded by Lucille Smith:

All-Region Audition fee---$5.00; Clinic fee waived;  Mileage to be paid at .41.5 cents per mile; All-Region clinicians will be paid $300; CPA judges $175 per day; event managers/chairpersons $150; event hosts $100; Data managers for All-Region auditions  $150; Region chair $200; Treasurer $200; Accompanists $150 per day; and extra judges for All-Region auditions $45 per day.

Rodney led a discussion of current ADE music/choral frame works and how to incorporate all of them into our rehearsal strategies.

The meeting was adjourned in due form at 9:00 PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Susan Buckner, Region Secretary
