SEArkCDA Spring Meeting Monday, April 17, 2009 The Spring Meeting of the Southeast Arkansas Choral Directors Association was held in the home of Susan Buckner in Pine Bluff. The meeting was called to order by Region Chair Charlotte Wilson at 7:00 PM. The following members were in attendance: Vickie Liddell, Barbara Jones, Denise Gray, Karen Robinson, Duane Jackson, LoraNelle Humphrey, Dennis Gates (student teacher/WHHS), Cara Akin, Edmond Hampton, Laura Ferguson, Charlotte Wilson, Susan Buckner. Minutes were read of the last regular meeting and were approved as read. The financial report was given by Denise Gray and was approved as read. It was reported that our region owed monies to make up the shortfall at the All-State Clinic. A motion was made by Susan , seconded by Edmond to pay the assessment. The motion carried. A motion was made by Laura to pay the catering bill for our evening bill of $320, seconded by Cara. The motion carried. There was no old business. New business: I. The Blytheville High School choir director requested to move from the NE region to our SE region. After discussion, Susan moved that we accept Blytheville into our region if we get documentation from her school district that they approve the transfer to another region, and if we get an assurance that the students would participate in all activities. The motion was seconded by Laura, and approved. 2. Discussion of a proposal by Craig Jones concerning judges for CPA.1) All judges would be board certified by ArkCDA; 2) judges for all events would be hired by Tom Street, in conjunction with the State Jr. and Sr. chairs and the region chair; 3) judges would be certified for a period of 5 years; 4) there would be adjudicator evaluations after every event, with the evaluations put on the ArkCDA website. Adjudicators would go through training and would need three letters of recommendation to be accepted into the program. This proposal will be voted upon by the state membership. Our thoughts, which Charlotte will report back to the state board: 1) Will the judges coming from near or far? That would effect our region expenses; and 2) Will Tom get all four judges in 2009-2010? 3. Sheree Clark could not attend the meeting, but sent a letter questioning the sight-reading procedures for our region. She participated in the SW region CPA this year and noted a difference in the sight-reading room. Response: the Sight-reading procedures were changed in the Evaluation Manual beginning with the 2008-2008 school year, so our procedures were the same as the rest of the state. At 8:30 PM a motion for adjournment was made by Edmond Hampton, seconded by Vickie Liddell. The motion carried and the meeting was adjourned.
