Narrative

The State Solo & Small Ensemble Festival was started in 2007 for the purpose of encouraging students to develop their individual voices and to encourage schools with programs that either do not or cannot participate in either the region cpa's or the state choral festival. It is a non-qualifying event. That means that students do not have to qualify at the region level in order to enter.

Any ArkCDA member school can enter students in the event. Students/groups must prepare two selections. One of the selections must come from ANY music list - two of these are available on the ArkCDA website at Resources, For Teachers, Literature, Solo.

Soloists through quartets must perform from memory. There is no a cappella requirement for any entry nor is there a language requirement. Students must provide the judge with one copy of their music with measures numbered. Illegally copied music is not acceptable for judges.

Recorded accompaniments are not allowed. If you need a pianist one will be available onsite.

Students are encouraged to sit in on performances and offer encouragement to each singer.

Soloists, duets and trio's who receive a Division I rating are awarded a medal. Ensembles receive a plaque.
